Description

Lying at the foot of the Swaershoek Mountains is Mookgopong, previously called Naboomspruit after the famous Naboom tree, a huge candelabra tree that grows on the banks of a nearby stream, The town developed with thanks to the discovery of minerals in the early 1900’s and is surrounded by nature reserves and hot springs.

There are hiking and walking trails, horseback safaris and 4X4 trails in the surrounding areas for outdoor enthusiasts.

Bundox game Ranch caters for the keen bird and nature lover as much as for those who just want to escape city life for a while.

Nylsvley Nature Reserve (RAMSAR - site since 1998)

The unique Nyl Floodplain is a principal wetland of 16000 ha and home to the largest variety of water birds in the Southern hemisphere about 365 bird species
Approx 20 percent of the floodplain is preserved as nature reserve and provides sanctuary to some 70 species of mammals, including endangered species as roan and tsessebe.

Makapans Valley (Mokopane)

The Makapans Valley, with the Makapans Cave at it’s centre, is a fascinating area that continues to provide many clues to the way the ancient Africans lived. The Makapans Cave is a National Heritage site and has many exited scientists and researches with an abundance and variety of study projects.
